My Christmas Gift

I've been out of touch for a few days, as I've just been through every mother's nightmare.  Last Wednesday, Mikey had a very bad rollover accident.  I found out from a call from the police.  This is truly my biggest fear.

He was taken to the closet hospital with a trauma center.  It ended up that he compressed two vertebrae in his neck and broke one vertebrae in his neck.  He had 7.5 hours of surgery on Saturday to insert some bone, plates, rods and screws.  He is still recovering in the hospital and will have a long recovery at home.  He's in a neck brace and will have to wear it for 6-8 week.  He is making good progress and he is young and as all the nurses keep telling me...he is very strong.

Having totaled his car I am very aware that we are lucky to still have him and now...all I want for Christmas is to having Mikey home.

I would truly appreciate a little prayer for his continued recovery.

  1. Lindalou, my heart is hurting along with you and Mikey. Many, many prayers going your way and all positive thoughts for a 100% recovery.

Wish I could say or do something that would be more comforting and helpful.

Please know that I do care. Hugs.

  2. Linda,

Our hearts and prayers are completely with you and Mikey!! Hang in there and you are also very strong and will pull through this with him. We pray for a successful recovery and love you all very much!

I wish we could be there for you through this, but just imagine some huge bear hugs from us. Love you!

  3. Linda,

Kelly couldn't have said it any better. We send our thoughts and prayers your way and hopes for a speedy recovery!

Many, many hugs to you and everyone there, wish we could be there to deliver them...

Much love to everyone, you are in our hearts!

  4. Dear Lindalou,
You and your family will be in my prayers. I am hoping for a full recovery for your son.

  5. Please know you will most certainly be in my thoughts and prayers, Lindalou. I truly appreciate your words, a mother's nightmare. On a crisp Dec 20 morning, several years ago, I got a similar call ... after kissing me goodbye on his way to volunteer at Wing Lake School before going to school (driving my restored white on white VW convertible and 5 minutes from home), my son hit black ice near Oakland Hills, spun out, and was hit by 2 oncoming cars. it was a horrific day, in an out of the green room at Beaumont ... thank God all went well ... he too was young and strong (captain of the Brother Rice State Championship football team). Today he has scars, married, and the father of my 2 beautiful grandboys :) Bless you and your family with special prayers that Mikey will be home for Christmas.

  6. Thank you all for your comments, virtual hugs and prayers. It means so much to me. Everyone has been so kind and supportive.

Joey, Thanks for sharing your own experience. It gives me such hope.

  7. oh my gosh. I am so sorry to hear this. You must have been so scared! I think it's true that younger people can bounce back much faster though... Mikey will be in my thoughts.
