Joey

In all the time that I've been blogging, I've never introduced the other member of our little family.  His name is Joey and he is "technically" Mikey's dog, but Joey wouldn't believe that for a minute.  He likes to play with Mike...but he knows who Muma and Daddy are.

This is my first dog.  I'm not a dog person by nature.  It took a lot of prodding and encouragement by Kristen, to actually get me to agree to a dog.  Joey was Mikey's 12th birthday present and as dogs go...he fits in with us perfectly.  He is a little quirky, but than that is probably why he fits in so well.

At the same time that we got Joey...Krissy and Jay got Frodo.  They are both Maltese Poodles.  Joey got more Maltese and Frodo got all the poodle.  They aren't technically related, but we say that they are cousins.

I am constantly taking pictures of Joey.  He's the only one who sits still long enough as I am still learning my new camera.  I will have to post more Joey pics and stories in the future.  He deserves more attention.

I forgot to mention...he adores Caity and she adores him too!  When she comes over he just brings his toy octopus to her over and over and over.  I think he believes she only comes over to play with him.

Just got Joey groomed so I think we needed a new Joey pic.

Question of the Week #3

Hey, it's actually Monday and I'm posting this week's question.  Yeah!

Here's what I have been wondering about and get ready..cause this is a two parter.

What is your favorite physical attribute and conversely, what is your least favorite physical attribute?

We all have them.  Just pony up.

For me, my favorite has always been my high metabolism.  Granted since I crossed over in to the 50's, the old metabolism ain't what she used to be, but for a significant portion of my life, I have been able to eat anything I wanted with no weight change.  In fact, there were periods in my young life, where my mother made me a daily milkshake in the hopes of actually putting on a pound or two.  Now those days are long gone, but it doesn't take away my deep appreciation for how lucky I've most of my life. (Not that it was always good, as there were times in my teens where I was mistaken for a boy!! How humiliating. )

Least fav, it's probably a tie between my nose (Ugh) and my very thin hair.  Now that I say it, I realize it's my thin hair.  And I know I shouldn't complain, cause at least it's a good color (well, mostly) and it's straight, but sometimes it is just so limp and lifeless, that I can't help wishing for thick, luxurious hair.

So, what's your best and worst.  Come on..you can share.

Card of the Week

One of the "cardmaker" blogs I visit on a regular basis is Paper Cutting Kind of Day.  It's Linda's blog and she makes some amazing cards.  What I like best, is that she explains what she does and shares some of her favorite techniques and products.  Plus, she most graciously answers my questions.  I learn something every time I visit.  Without knowing it,she frequently sends me to the store to pick up some other card making tool.  I can't help it, I just love what she does and then I want to do it too.

She makes cards for Pink Persimmon and they are having a sketch this week and since it's on Linda's blog I really must submit a card.

Here is the sketch:

And here is my interpretation:

It's also Dr. GaGa's Birthday card.  (See, he was walking around the office the other week singing a Lady GaGa song....and the next thing you know, he has a new nickname. You got to love that about him.)

Thanks Linda for hosting this fun sketch.

Weekly Question #2

I should have posted this question on Monday, but I was distracted by my amazing and riveting giveaway.  So much for trying to do anything in a predictable fashion.  Guess that's just not my style.

See these red heels....well I don't own anything even remotely like them.  I've always had sensitive feet and therefore I go for pretty conservative shoes.

OK...there was, a long time ago, a pair of periwinkle blue heels that BW still occasionally mentions (with a particular glint in his eye).  Otherwise I'm a very basic pumps or flats kind of girl.

But I digress, let's get back on subject...So, here's this week's question.

Without actually looking in your closet, how many pairs of shoes do you think you own?  Consider all your shoes, the beat up sneakers and that pair of yellow heels that you only wore once to your 2nd cousin's wedding . (Yes..I have a pair of those hidden in the back of my closet somewhere.)

As for me, I think I have about 30 pair. To be honest, I only wear a rotation of about 5 pair, but I don't get rid of shoes lightly.

Let's find out who is the real shoe fanatic!

Drum Roll Please

And the winner of The Pioneer Woman cookbook (using Random.org) is.....

Can you just feel the tension?

Commentor #2, which is ArtCricket2.

Yeah! Knowing how much you love to cook (or is that the hubby??), I know this book will be put to good use.  Please email me at lindalou1227@comcast.net with your information and I'll send this right out to you.

Thanks everyone for playing.  I enjoyed hearing about all your favorite love movies and even a couple of your own love stories.  BTW...next time Anonymous, create an id and log in as yourself so you can actually win.  Although, I did love your story.  It was very sweet and I hope you share it with your wife.  Since I have such a huge following, you probably had about 10 or 12 people read it.  That's practically like being published.

I know it was a quick giveaway...but don't worry, I'm working on another giveaway in March to celebrate..get this...my 1st Anniversary of blogging.  So keep checking back and I'll leave some hints about when it's going to happen.

Valentine's Giveaway!

Since it's almost Valentine's Day and I have an extra copy of Pioneer Woman's Cookbook, I thought that would make a perfect giveaway moment.

All you have to do is tell me your favorite love story movie. Which movie just melts your heart? Pretty simple.

And if you mention my giveaway on your blog, you can get an extra entry.  Just make sure you come back and make another comment.

Winner will be selected at random.

This giveaway will be open until Monday (Feb 15) at 9:00am ET.

Winner will be posted this evening.  Thanks everyone.

Card of the Week

What better way to spend a snowy afternoon, then to make a few cards. (Honey...if you are reading this, please stop.)

Again I used this week's CPS sketch for inspiration.  Thank you CPS.

This is BW's Valentine's card, so I have to hope he won't be stopping by for a visit or that he heeds my warning at the beginning of this post.

Now I'm off to hunt down a peanut brittle recipe.  It's one of his favorite treats and since I made his other favorite treat yesterday (oatmeal cookies) for his birthday, I need to make something else for Valentine's Day.

Weekly Question #1

I had such fun with the "who would you want to play you in a movie" question, that I've decided to start doing a weekly question. And I think Monday's are a perfect time for this.  I'm not a big fan of Monday's anyway, so this will be my thought starter for the each week.

Today's question...

What is your absolute favorite food?  Pretend you are hungry...right now.  What would you be craving?

I'd like to be ridiculously crazy and answer with something really expensive or exotic, but to be honest (and I gotta true to myself) my choice would have to be a really good cheeseburger.

Not that I don't love crab legs, a filet mignon and chocolate, but my base is always a cheesburger.

I wonder what this says about me.  Pretty basic...girl next door type.  Yep, that's me.

Just a Little Suggestion...

Are you all sick of me talking about movies yet.

I hope not.

I can't really help it.  It is THAT time of year and all.   Here's one for your NetFlicks or Family Video list.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Grade: A

This came out in 2008 and BW and I went to the theatre to see it.  It was just recently on HBO and we watched it again.  It reminded me of how much I liked this movie and my surprise that more people haven't seen it.

It's just a charming little movie and Frances McDormand and Amy Adams are just wonderful in it.  Set in London, just prior to World War II, Amy Adams plays Delysia Lafosse, a young and somewhat flighty nightclub singer, determined to become a star.  Frances McDormand plays Guinivere Pettigew, a down on her luck unemployed governess who maneuvers  herself into a job as Delysia's social secretary.  A social whirlwind of music, romance and cocktails commences.

Put this on your list.  I think you'll like it.

Disclaimer:  My mother didn't care for this movie.  Amy Adams' character talks pretty fast and I think she missed some of the dialogue.  But then this disclaimer needs a disclaimer.  Mom didn't like Love Actually.  So, I'm not so sure that her vote should turn you away from the lovely Miss Pettigrew.

Inglourious Bastards Movie Review

Inglourious Bastards

Grade: Q

We finally watched Inglourious Bastards over the week-end.  It is out on DVD, so we rented it for Saturday night.  I have absolutely no idea how to grade or rate it.  So I'm giving it a "Q" because this is certainly a Quentin Tarantino movie.  His thumbprint is all over this baby.  It's quirky, funny, shocking, sad, disturbing...you get the picture.

Did I love it...no.  Did I hate it...no.  I don't even know if I liked it, but it was certainly interesting despite the fact that I had to close my eyes, frequently.

Trying to figure out how to classify this movie is difficult.  It is a World War II Fairy Tale.  And when I say fairy tale...think really, really grim, Brothers Grimm.

Brad Pitt's Tennessee accent is hilarious.  He does a great job leading a band of U.S. "Nat-zi" killers.  I also thought Melanie Laurent brought a lot of depth to her role as Shosanna. And of course, Christoph Waltz is very good as Col. Hans Landa.  Good chance that he'll get this year's Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

I'm glad I got to see it, but I don't think I really ever need to see it again.  (Mikey thought it was great, if that helps you define the movie's audience.)

Interesting side fact:  Anyone out there remember Rod Taylor?  He was a very handsome actor from 60's.  His big films were probably The Time Machine and The Birds.  (Although my personel fav was Sunday in New York with Jane Fonda.)  Any who...he is in this movie briefly playing Winston Churchill.  And yes, he's changed a bit.

Here he is in the movie.  Hard to tell, but it's him.  Also just read that he was the voice of Pongo in Disney's 101 Dalmations....fascinating.
And since I am now rambling a bit, let's just go with the flow.  Where do I learn all these amazing movie facts?  Well it's at IMDB.  This is the best internet site for researching movies and tv.  Recognize someone in a movie and know you've seen them before, but can't remember.  Go to IMDB, search for the movie, find the character's name, click on that actor and you will be taken to their complete filmography.  It's brilliant.
